Fiberglass mat is the most commonly used reinforcement material for manufacturing laminates by the hand lamination method. The glass fibers are cross-woven together and held together by a binder. This binder dissolves in styrene (much like polyester resin), allowing the material to form well during lamination.
Fiberglass mat of 300 g/m² is used for shaped parts with many details.
Resin consumption per layer (per individual layer)
1 m² 300 g/m² – 0.7 kg polyester resin
5 m² 300 g/m² – 3.5 kg polyester resin
20 m² 300 g/m² – 14 kg polyester resin
150 m² 300 g/m² – 100 kg polyester resin
